CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR CHOICE OF A WORKBENCH FROM SJÖBERGS! If you take proper care of it, it can be used for generations. Here is some advice to ensure that your bench works to your complete satisfaction. CLIMATE Wood is a hygroscopic material with the ability to emit and absorb moisture from the surrounding air and materials. As a result, the wood swells or shrinks, depending on the atmospheric humidity. The moisture content of the wood strives to maintain equilibrium with the surrounding climate. During dry periods, gaps might arise between boards, and “dishing” occurs. During moist periods, on the other hand, the boards press tightly together and a slight “cupping” can occur. Therefore, it’s important that you keep your workbench where the relative humidity, RH, can be kept between 40 and 55% all year around. If you exceed those limits, the wood can react as described above. You can measure the RH with a hygrometer. If the RH is lower than 40% you should add moisture to the room and if it’s more than 55%, you need to dehumidify. You will find an hygrometer as well as a dehumidifier at the hardware dealer. We humans also prefer our indoor air to have a relative humidity within these limits. This prevents bacteria, viruses, bronchial infections, asthma etc from flourishing. HERZLICHEN GLÜCKWUNSCH ZUM ERWERB EINER ORIGINAL SJÖBERGS HOBELBANK. Generationen werden Freude daran haben, wenn Sie folgende Pflegehinweise beachten. KLIMA Holz als hygroskopisches Material hat die Fähigkeit, Wasser aufzunehmen bzw. abzugeben. Dies führt dazu, dass das Holz je nach Luftfeuchtigkeit in der Umgebung quillt oder schrumpft. Der Feuchtigkeitsgehalt des Holzes ist also abhängig von der Luftfeuchtigkeit. Im Winter, bei meist trockener Innenraumluft schrumpft das Holz. Im Sommer wiederum bei feuchter Luft quillt das Holz an. Deshalb ist es wichtig, dass Sie Ihre Hobelbank in einem Raumklima unterbringen, in dem immer eine Luftfeuchtigkeit von 40–55% gewährleistet ist. Werden diese Grenzwerte überschritten, kann das Holz wie beschrieben reagieren. Mit einem sogenannten Hygrometer können Sie die Luftfeuchtigkeit feststellen. Liegt der Wert unter 40% sollten Sie dem Raum Feuchtigkeit zuführen, liegt er über 55% sollten Sie für trockene Luft sorgen. Einen Hygrometer finden Sie im Eisenwarenhandel oder ähnlichen Geschäften. Hier gibt es auch Geräte zum Ent- bzw. Befeuchten. Allerdings sind es nicht nur Hölzer, denen es am besten bei einer Luftfeuchtigkeit von 40–55% gefällt. Auch wir Menschen fühlen uns besser bei gutem Innenraumklima, das das Auftreten von Bakterien, Viren, Atemwegsinfektionen, Asthma usw. verhindert. sjobergs.se care CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF THE SJÖBERGS ELITE AND SCANDI BENCHES OILING For our naturally oiled beech benches ELITE and SCANDI, it is important to oil them regularly. You can tell rather easily when the need arises because the surface will feel dry and absorb liquids. Any glue and paint residues should be scraped off the surface. Sand the surface lightly with a 120 Grit sandpaper and then apply a colourless natural oil for wood with a sponge or cloth. Be sure to remove any excess oil before it dries. When the oil has hardened/dried (after about 10 hours), you can polish the surface with a cloth. If only cleaning the oiled surface, use a superfatted soap with pH 8–9. LUBRICATION OF SPINDLES The spindles in both the front and end vice are made of metal and need to be oiled regularly. Lubricate the spindle and move the vice back and forth a few times! STABILITY Our benches are delivered partially disassembled so not to be too bulky for shipping. After the bench is assembled, you should check that the connections are tight. Some bench models have a guide that can be adjusted when necessary. (See assembly instructions). If you want the bench to be more stable, you can fix the bench to the floor through the predrilled holes in the feet. Good luck with your new Sjöbergs workbench!
WARTUNG UND PFLEGE DER ELITE UND SCANDI SJÖBERGS HOBELBÄNKE Für unsere Hobelbänke ELITE und SCANDI ist es wichtig, die Platten regelmäßig einzuölen. Wann das erforderlich ist, läßt sich einfach feststellen: Die Oberfläche fühlt sich trocken an und absorbiert Flüssigkeit. Jetzt bitte die Oberfläche von Leim- und Farbresten säubern. Die Oberfläche leicht mit einem Schleifpapier der Körnung 120 anschleifen, dann ein ungefärbtes Naturöl mittels Schwamm oder Stoffrest auftragen. Vor dem Eintrocknen überflüssiges Öl entfernen. Sobald das Öl (nach etwa 10 Min) eingetrocknet ist, kann man mit einem Schwamm (z.B. der Marke Scotch Brit) oder einem Stoffrest nachpolieren. Bei einfacher Reinigung der geölten Oberfläche sollte eine Seife mit pH-Wert 8–9 verwendet werden. SCHMIEREN DER SPINDEL Sowohl die Spindel der Vorder- als auch Hinterzange ist aus Metall und muss regelmäßig geölt bzw. geschmiert werden. Benützen Sie hier ein zäh fliessendes Öl oder Schmierfett. Die Spindeln bitte bis ganz zum Ende schmieren und mehrfach drehen. STABILITÄT Um die Frachtkosten zu begrenzen, werden unsere Hobelbänke demontiert angeliefert. Nach der Montage sollten Sie regelmäßig den festen Sitz der Schrauben überprüfen und ggf. nachziehen. Einige unserer Hobelbänke haben eine justierbare Zange, die bei Bedarf nachjustiert werden kann. (Siehe Montage-Anweisung) Will man den Stand der Hobelbank noch weiter stabilisieren, lassen sich die Beine mittels der vorgebohrten Löcher am Fußboden verschrauben.
